A celebration event was held to mark the 3rd Smart Grid Day at the plaza of Jeju Local Government office under the theme of "Carbon-Free Island Jeju, Moving towards the World."
"Jeju Smart Grid Test Bed Complex is gaining much attention in the world with its cutting-edge technology," said Jeju Governor U Geun-min said in his congratulatory remark. "The test bed facility will make Korea suffering the shortage of energy more competitive."
Jeju unveiled the Carbon-Free Island Jeju by 2030, a mid-term plan focusing on renewable energy sources including wind power generation, smart grid and electric vehicles.
After the celebration event, 100 electric vehicles paraded Jeju and citizens were given opportunities to test-drive the vehicles from 1 P.M. to 6 P.M.
Currently, Jeju has 218 vehicles operated by government agencies (141), Jeju Smart Grid Test Bed Complex (54) and rental car agencies (23). It has 371 charging stations installed in Smart Grid Test Bed Complex (179), government agencies (169) and rental car agencies (23).
