According to Yonhap News,

Jeju and the Jeju Free International City Development Center (JDC) have attracted a total of 1.7 trillion won of foreign direct investment (FDI) this year from five companies, in addition to 60 billion won-investment from 13 domestic companies.

China's state-led company Greenland, included in the Fortune Global Top 500 Companies, will invest 200 billion won by 2014 to build a 778,000 square meter-green resort in its first-phase investment plan and then construct a wellness mall, a well-being food zone, a healing garden, a medical R&D center and an anti-aging center later.

CHINA CITY DEVELOPMENT, a joint-venture company among Beijing-based companies, will inject USD 300 million to build accommodation facilities and museums.

In addition, a Korean resident in Japan will build a 165,000 square-meter resort.

Jeju also sees the enormous inflow of investment from domestic companies as well.

BK Bio, a Seoul-headquartered feed processing company, and JCREATION, a Gyeonggi-based ginseng producer, will invest 6 billion won and 5 billion won, respectively, to relocate their headquarter to the Jeju Lava Seawater Fisheries Complex.

The Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology will spend 19.7 billion won to build an international ocean research support center.

Black Yak and Chungbuk (north Chungcheong Province) Office of Education will invest 20 billion won and 9.7 billion won, respectively, to build their training institute in Jeju.

"As Jeju is named the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, World Heritage Site and World Geo-Park, domestic and overseas investors are showing strong interests in Jeju. We will strengthen our investment attraction activities," said a Jeju official.
