Jeju inked a cooperation agreement with China-based Kanghui Travel Agency to attract Chinese tourists to Jeju.

Under the agreement, Kanghui Travel Agency will designate this year as the Visit Korea Year and attract about 50,000 Chinese tourists via its 220 branches and 5,500 service networks across China.

It will also operate chartered flights between Jeju and nine Chinese cities including Nanjing, Xian and Chongqing.

In addition, the Chinese travel agency had a meeting with its 250 executive members and managers attending in Jeju this month to discuss how to lure more Chinese visitors to Jeju.

"As the China-Japan relations turned sour last year due to territorial disputes, many Chinese tourists chose Korea tourists destinations. Given that, it strategically makes sense to focus on Korea to meet growing demands of Chinese tourists," said CEO of Kanghui Travel Agency.

"China is emerging as a new economic power, which will lead to a growing number of tourists to abroad," said Jeju Governor Woo Keum-min.

Founded in 1984, Kanghui Travel Agency is one of China's four major state-led travel agencies with 30,000 employees.
