According to Yonhap News,

Jeju unveiled its plan to hold the Jeju World Leadears' Conservation Forum next year where world leaders and renowned environmentalists will gather to discuss global environmental issues.

The detailed agendas to be dealt with and guests will be determined in collaboration with the Ministry of Knowledge Economy and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). Jeju aims at developing the forum into an international environmental forum.

The IUCN decided to expand the World Leaders Dialogue into the Jeju World Leaders' Conservation Forum, an event held on a regular basis to address the global environmental challenge, at the 2012 World Conservation Congress (WCC) held in Jeju last September.

Headquartered in Swiss, the IUCN is the oldest international non-governmental organization (NGO) and world's largest environmental group with members of 89 nations, 124 government agencies and 1,018 NGOs.

Last September, world leaders and environmentalists discussed how to respond to climate change, recover ecosystem, pursue green growth, ensure the stable supply of food, achieve the green growth and environmental conservation at the same time and distribute natural resources equally at the World Leaders Dialogue.

In addition, as the WCC chose the agenda of "Establishment of World Environmental Hub and Evaluation System," proposed by Jeju, the Jeju local government embarks on the project to develop Jeju into the World Environmental Hub, a concept pursuing the co-development of the environment, society and economy.

"We will hold the Jeju World Leaders' Conservation Forum annually from next year to evolve Jeju into an important venue where world's prominent leaders discuss solutions to tackle global environmental issues," said a Jeju official.
