The number of foreign tourists to Jeju is on the rise.

According to Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, the accumulated number of foreign tourists to Jeju this year until April 16 reached 394,291, up 40.3 percent over the same period last year, or 281,052. The increase is seen as a result of easy access to the island by air and ships as well as aggressive marketing by the tourism industry.

In particular, the number of Chinese tourists dramatically increased to 277,981, a 78.3-percent increase from last year’s 155,871. The main contributor to the increase is air flights between Jeju and the Chinese cities of Nanchang, Quanzhou, and Yanji that have been running since the beginning of the year. Currently, there are 32 direct air flights between Jeju and China.

To attract two million foreign visitors this year, the provincial government is promoting Jeju in China, Malaysia, and Singapore through various advertisements, such as a train-warping commercial, taxi-warping commercial, and newspaper advertisements.
