Jeju Island will host an international environment forum and promote five items from the Jeju Declaration to seek measures to foster Jeju to become a global environment capital in association with an event celebrating the 1st anniversary of the 2012 World Conservation Congress (WCC), to attract participation and support from international organizations and governments.

Jeju will also sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to jointly host the Jeju World Leaders Forum. It plans to sign MOUs to hold an international environment forum and promote long-term projects with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

Jeju will host a working group meeting to develop an assessment and certification system for a global environment hub and more workshops, symposiums and forums are to follow.

As a KRW 2 trillion budget is secured as a revised supplementary budget, Jeju will begin developing a basic plan to make Jeju a global environment capital.

A draft for the assessment and certification system will be developed this year and complemented through negotiations with ICUN and other international organizations to finalize the system by 2015.

Fostering Jeju as a global environment capital will be submitted as an initiative for the seventh WCC meeting in 2016. When selected, Jeju will be assessed by the IUCN from 2017 and certified as the first global environment capital in the 8th WCC meeting in 2020.
