Jeju announced yesterday that Ocean Star, a sea cucumber processor and exporter in Jeju, penetrated the Chinese, U.S., Hong Kong and Vietnam market to export sea cucumbers.

Following its dried sea cucumber exports of USD 431,000 to Hong Kong and China last year, the Ocean Star’s exports reached USD 191,000 as of July this year.

It also made an exports contract of USD 200,000 (200 kg) to the Chinatown in San Francisco for the first time for Korea. The first shipment of USD 17,000 was sent last week.

In addition, the company signed exports contracts with China (USD 80,300), Hong Kong (USD 630,000) and Vietnam (USD 78,000).

Jeju expects to see sea cucumber exports to exceed USD 800,000 as the number of buyers is increasing.

To develop infrastructure for large-scale farming of red sea cucumbers according to its five-year plan for advancement of red sea cucumber farming industry, which was established in May, Jeju plans to build large-scale sea cucumber farms.
