The number of foreign visitors to Jeju is rapidly growing.

Jeju announced that the number of tourists to Jeju this year as of July 10 increased by 34.7 percent over the same period last year to reach 993,973 from last year’s 737,792.

Considering that about 10,000 foreigners travel to Jeju a day, the number of visitors is expected to exceed a million July 11. This is earlier than last year’s record by 45 days.

The number of visitors reached a record high June 7.

As of July 10, the number of Chinese visitors stood at 728,516, which accounted for 73.3 percent of total foreign tourists. It showed a 63.4 percent growth from last year’s 445,748.

China was the first country to send more than a million tourists to Jeju.

This was backed by increased global awareness of Jeju as it is registered on the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s World Natural Heritage, World Geopark and the Biosphere Reserve and it was named one of the new seven Wonders of Nature.

As more people visit Jeju, number of direct flights between Jeju and China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan increased by 3.3 times to 50 flights from last year’s 15.

Jeju expected to reach foreign visitors of 2 million this year if the growth of foreign visitors continues.
