The recent seminar held in Seoul, attended by Governor Oh Younghun and representatives from 12 Jeju Workation office facilities, showcased the genuine charm of Jeju's workation culture, capturing the interest of both businesses and workers.

Playcation, Restcation, and Workation

Jeju's exceptional leisure resources and smart work infrastructure are widely acknowledged. To solidify its position as a global workation hub, Jeju continues organizing seminars for businesses and workers. The Jeju workation concept is anticipated to play a role in indirectly attracting investments as well as expanding networks and attracting distributed offices from companies in the capital area and abroad in the long term. Beyond the mere relocation of workspaces to Jeju, the province consistently develops additional workation products, utilizing the unique content of the region. Jeju stands as an ideal location to seamlessly integrate work and leisure, offering an authentic workation experience.

The global pandemic has reshaped our daily paradigms. Traditional norms, such as operating an office space, a 9-to-6 work schedule, and face-to-face interactions, have evolved significantly. Concepts like downsizing offices, using shared office spaces, and embracing flexible work arrangements, including working from home, have become more widely accepted. The advent of online-based smart work systems, accessible nationally and internationally, has opened up possibilities for a more liberated work environment. 

Recognizing these shifts, Jeju turned its attention to workation, offering experiences of working and staying in Jeju to companies embracing remote and distributed work. Jeju workation emphasizes its strong advantage in expanding networks with local and international businesses. By promoting workation programs, the province aims to boost investment interest in Jeju and act as a catalyst for attracting distributed corporate offices and digital talents. Furthermore, Jeju aspires to enhance competitiveness in village tourism by expanding collaborations with villages visited by workation participants, developing village-stay products, and establishing related infrastructure.

In this seminar, Jeju Province highlighted the positive aspects of the Jeju workation program, such as offering incentives and welfare services for company employees, introducing new work environments, enhancing employees' work efficiency, and fostering a sense of belonging. The distinctiveness of Jeju's workation offices lies in the diverse concepts, environments, and facilities offered, setting them apart from those in other regions. The seminar showcased various private workation office facilities and programs across the province, providing a broader range of options for companies considering dispatching their employees. In addition to official presentations, individual one-on-one consultations were arranged among companies, representatives from Jeju Province, and private workation offices, adding more excitement to the event.

To promote the charm of Jeju workation, Jeju Province held a seminar in Seoul following one in Pangyo. The 2023 Jeju Workation Seminar in Seoul event attracted 102 participants from 50 companies, leading to explosive interest from companies in the capital region. Held in the easily accessible location of Myeongdong, the event also saw visits and consultations from citizens interested in Jeju and workation.

Governor Oh Younghun underscored the significance of this event, extending gratitude to the participating companies and citizens. He expressed, "Jeju is promoting various future industries such as green hydrogen, private space industry, and urban air mobility (UAM). I hope that Jeju workation provides a beneficial and meaningful opportunity for both companies and workers."
