Four livestock facilities in Jeju will be equipped with energy efficiency infrastructure.

The “Green Energy Project for Clean Livestock Facility” is the project selected as the most “outstanding project” in the “Balanced Regional Green New Deal” by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety last year.

Through this project, the selected four facilities will be provided with renewable energy facilities, including an energy storage system (ESS) based on used batteries, a solar power plant, an energy facility with high efficiency, and an integrated monitoring system, all of which will be funded by a total of KRW 3.4 billion consisted of a special grant tax (KRW 3 billion) and a provincial subsidy (KRW 4 million).

The four participants for the project were first selected based on the amount of electricity consumption with the lead of JEJU Technopark, an experienced organization with expertise and know-how in the field.

The project operator was chosen last February through a public competition, and 6 companies, including Gridwiz, won the contract as a consortium. Once the analysis of each participant’s electricity environment and the working design for infrastructure is complete, the construction will take place in full, aiming for completion and operation in December.

Jeju Island is expecting to see an economic effect worth KRW 13.2 from electricity and oil cost cuts, reduction of carbon emissions, and replacement of manpower. The process and outcomes of this demonstration project will be thoroughly analyzed for further application in the future. “We look forward to contributing to carbon neutrality, development of sustainable agriculture, and preservation of the agricultural environment, opening a new future of farming in Jeju,” said the Jeju government.
