The "Hoppin; Jeju: Workation with Global Digital Nomads," hosted by Jeju Province and the International Convention Center (ICC) Jeju, concluded successfully. Held from October 31 to November 7, the event welcomed 30 digital nomads[1]  from 14 countries, including the United States, France, and Australia. Organized by the global workation startup Hoppers[2] , the program aimed to attract international digital nomads and establish a global workation ecosystem. Participants worked from shared offices while enjoying unique cultural experiences in their leisure time, such as walking the Olle trails, exploring volcanic cones, and harvesting tangerines.

Jeju Pursues Digital Nomad Visa Combining Visa Waiver and Workation

Networking events connecting participants with the local community received enthusiastic responses during the workation program. Sessions were held at the entrepreneurial networking conference “JOIN 2024,” and “Digital Nomad Meetup Day” brought together Korean digital nomads living in Jeju and young entrepreneurs to discuss Jeju’s potential and areas for improvement as a global workation hub. A participant satisfaction survey revealed high praise for the program, with 100% of respondents expressing willingness to participate again. Notably, 77% of those eager to return also expressed a desire to stay in Jeju for more than three weeks after the event. Participants highlighted their satisfaction with workation spaces and suggested expanding opportunities for interaction with local residents. The event is expected to have a strong promotional impact globally through Hoppers’ social media channels and the newsletter of Digital Nomads Korea, the leading digital nomad community in South Korea.

Jeju Province is now working on introducing a "Jeju Digital Nomad Visa," combining its visa waiver program with workation benefits. Aligning with the government’s policy to attract global talent, the initiative aims to relax visa requirements and bring in international digital professionals. Kim In-young, Director of Jeju Province’s Economic Vitality Bureau, said, “Workation, as a new lifestyle in the digital age, is poised to become a growth driver for Jeju. Through this project, we have confirmed Jeju’s potential to emerge as a leading workation hub in Asia.”
