Korea to Participate in the Expo Milano 2015
Date
2013.07.24

The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency signed a participation contract with the Organization Committee of the Expo Milano 2015 last week in Seoul.

The Expo Milano 2015 will be held in Milano, Italy from May to October 2015, under the theme of Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life. It is a registered exposition held every five years with the approval of the Bureau International des Expositions. Currently, 128 countries have confirmed their participation in the expo.

Registered expositions are larger than recognized expositions. Korea has held two recognized expositions – in 1993 and 2012 – but not registered expositions.

Korea will have a 3,880 m2 pavilion at the expo, and it will be the fourth largest national pavilion among those from Asian countries, following China, Japan and Saudi Arabia.

The Korean government plans to enhance the prestige of Korea, its companies and its products by spreading the Korean Wave, which is represented by traditional Korean culture and K-pop.

It also aims to lay a foundation for the globalization of Korean cuisine using the expo’s theme of food as an advantage.

KOTRA CEO Oh Young-ho, an official commissioner for the Expo Milano 2015, noted that the expo will serve as a good opportunity to look toward the future of new growth industries, which are based on the convergence of traditional and new industries – of art, culture and information and communication technology.
