The rising global influence of K-content (Korean cultural content) is significantly influencing the inflow of foreign tourists to Korea.

Diversification of the Korean Tourism Market

Following the gradual recovery from the pandemic, the number of international visitors increased in 2022 due to the base effect. By 2024, the growing diversity of the Korean tourism market including food, movies, K-pop, and etc. has led to a return to pre-pandemic levels (2019). In 2025, the number of overseas tourists is expected to continue rising due to various factors, including business and family travel.

Major Government Policies and Incentives

The government convened the 6th Tourism Strategy Meeting and announced plans to combine K-culture and tourism for the objective of achieving by 2027: 30 million foreign tourists, USD 30 billion in tourism revenue, 15 days of domestic travel, and KRW 50 trillion in domestic travel spending.

To optimize tourism supply and demand, the government has outlined strategic plans to establish Mega Tourism Clusters, designating key regions like the Seoul Metropolitan Area, Gangwon, and Jeju as Cluster 1, ensuring tailored development initiatives in prominent cities for potential investors.
