According to Yonhap News,

Seo-gu, Busan is striving to designate Busan Cooperative Fish Market and areas with a number of fisheries businesses as ‘Special Zones for the Fishing Industry.’

According to Seo-gu Office on February 16th, it aims to facilitate the infrastructure and create tourist attractions of the fishing industry through the designation.

Busan Cooperative Fish Market, International Fisheries Distribution Base at Gamcheon Port, and Songdo beach will be designated as special zones to revitalize the regional fishing industry.

Some said that special zones should consist of a coastal fisheries distribution area, a fisheries and maritime tourism area, a seafood valley, and an international fisheries distribution and processing area at an interim briefing session held by Seo-gu Office.

It was suggested that an education center for fisheries distribution be set up at a fish market and a wholesale town for seafood be established nearby a fish market.

Other ideas include a maritime science hall and tuna aquarium at Hanjin landfill where visitors can experience marine wind power and fisheries science; a shopping center, amusement facilities, and a marine animal show auditorium at Songdo Ocean Park which will be built nearby Songdo beach; a seafood restaurant at the former place of National Veterinary Research & Quarantine Service.

An international marine center and a seafood department store will be built at a marine product export and processing complex, scheduled to be set up nearby the marine product wholesale market at Gamcheon Port.

Seo-gu Office plans to hold a final briefing session in May to adjust its plan for special zones, have a hearing and investment seminar, and apply for special zone designation at the Ministry of Knowledge Economy in August.
