It’s now easier than ever for people from all over the world to gain access to information about Busan.

To help foreign internet users find out about Busan more easily, the city has connected the Busan City’s foreign language web sites with Yahoo, Google and other famous foreign portal sites. Busan is also actively promoting the city on those sites.

On April 7, the city registered ‘Busan’ and 100 other keywords related to the city on 30 top portal sites in seven countries around the world. The keywords have also been registered at 240 news media web sites, with the list tailored to fit different markets: In Japan, for instance, ‘oncheon’ (hot spring) is among the keywords, in China, it’s ‘Busan Medical Tour,’ while for the United States, ‘festival’ is one of the most important keywords.

Busan City also plans to have the English, Chinese and Japanese versions of the city’s homepage at the top of portal searches, so prospective tourists can easily find the information they need. The search engine promotion is part of a wider online campaign to promote Busan tourist hotspots, food and festivals through top social web sites and online tour web sites.

“When we first implemented our search engine promotion in the United States, China and Japan in May 2010, the ranking of the city’s web site rose by 44 percent in just four months, according to Alexa.com,” said Hong Kyeong-Heui, the Director of Vision & Strategy Division.

“This year we plan to raise and reinforce the brand value of Busan City through the search engine promotion, while also attracting more foreign investment and bringing tourism to the city.”
