According to Yonhap News,

Busan is reaching toward a world-class convention city.

Busan Convention & Visitors Bureau(BCVB) said that Busan ranked 17th in the world, and 4th in Asia in 2010 Convention City Global Ranking published by the Union of International Association(UIA).

Busan held 93 international conferences last year, an increase of 227% from 2009. Global and Asia rankings rose 20 and 6 notches, respectively.

UIA published ranking of cities every year by estimating the number of conferences that last more than three days with more than 300 participants and 5 participating countries.

UIA is a globally recognized research institute and documentation center of international conference.

BCVB said that Busan's efforts to host conferences of international organization and governments, and to establish joint marketing system with local agencies contributed to a higher ranking.

BCVB said that with completion of BEXCO's facilities, Busan's competitiveness will increase, leading to more international conferences.
