According to Yonhap News,

Busan unveiled its plan to attract and support students from various countries in partnership with the Busan Foundation for International Activities.

The city plans to participate in the 2012 Vietnam International Education Fair, to be held in Ho Chi Min, Vietnam next month, with four universities in Busan including Dong-A University in a bid to attract foreign students.

It plans to attract interests of the Vietnamese students and businesses in the overseas education sector.

The city has also decided to grant scholarships to 18 foreign students from 14 universities including Pusan National University.

The scholarship awarding ceremony is scheduled to be held in the Busan Foundation for International Activities tomorrow.

Each student will be paid two million won a year. The students, selected through the paper screening and interview, will serve as foreign monitoring agents for Busan and promoters of the foundation.

In addition, the city will provide various supports to help foreign students settle in Korea as soon as possible, such as the operation of a foreign student support committee, organization of welcoming party and various culture experience programs and providing information on short-term internship programs and jobs.

"The foreign student support project will make Busan a global foreigner-friendly city. We will expand the scope of the project from foreign students to foreign residents in Busan," said an official of the city.

As of January 2011, the number of foreign students in Busan amounted 6,483, up 43 percent from 4,546 in 2008.
