According to Yonhap News,

Busan City signed a cooperative agreement with Houston, a U.S. city well-known for its excellence in energy and marine plant.

About 20 people including representatives of Houston Port Authority, Houston Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Korean Community Association participated in the signing ceremony held at Houston City Hall. Both sides agreed to work together in port logistics, marine energy resources, medical treatment and aviation sectors.

Houston Mayor Annise Parker sent an official letter to suggest exchanges between both cities last year.

In a response to the letter, Busan dispatched a delegation group to discuss details. Busan is interested in Houston's marine plant industry, while Houston pays keen attention to Busan's port logistics facilities.

During the signing ceremony, Busan promoted its 2012 International Marine Plant Exhibition, scheduled to be held at Busan bExhibition and Convention Center (BEXCO) in November.

With the population of 1.2 million, Houston is the fourth largest city in the U.S. following New York, L.A. and Chicago and the largest in the State of Texas.

It is called the "Energy Capital of the World" due to its development in the oil, bio-medical, renewable energy and aviation industries. The Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), which has been held in Houston annually since 1969, is the world's largest marine plant event.
