Busan Opens a Research Center to Cultivate IT Professionals

According to Yonhap News,

The big data processing platform research center is scheduled to hold an opening ceremony on Tuesday, being designated by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, in an attempt to nurture creative IT professionals who specializes in conducting IT-related projects.

Ahead of the opening ceremony, professors and representatives of companies and the research center will present their study results and deliver lectures.

The opening ceremony is expected to draw vice mayor of economy department of Busan City Lee Yeong-hwal, lawmaker Gwon Eun-hui, director general for policy of information and communication of the Ministry of Knowledge Economy Park Il-jun and others.

A total of 3.12 billion won, financed by national and city budgets, will be injected into supporting the research center to develop processing technology of big data concerning logistics and transportation and distributed and parallel platform technology for four years by 2015.

Pusan National University has been focusing on conducting study on processing data of port logistics through its research group on the next-generation logistics IT technology since 2004. More than 80 researchers with master's or doctor's degree from seven companies and institutes, including New Communication Infotech, Chunil Information & Communication and Intelligence & Ownership, will participate in the study, led by Pusan National University.

Busan City has been supporting R&D projects conducted by Pusan National University since April.

The study is expected to cultivate professionals who will lead processing technology of big data and distributed and parallel platform technology, which will contribute to facilitating relevant industries.
