According to Yonhap News,
The Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone (BJFEZ) authority inked a cooperation agreement with Pukyong National University to attract foreign universities and research centers to Myeongji International New City.
Under the special act on designation and operation of free economic zones (FEZs), branches of foreign universities can be located in FEZs and Jeju Self-Governing Province after being approved by the Minister of Education, Science and Technology.
Germany-based Friedrich-Alexander University opened its satellite campus in BJFEZ and started a graduate program on chemistry and biotechnology in March.
All of Korean students joining the graduate program are working as paid interns at major German companies that specialize in materials including Bayer and will graduate in next February.
The BJFEZ authority plans to attract campuses of world-renowned elementary, middle and high schools and universities and research institutes to Myeongju Global Campus under construction.
"We will make every effort to elevate Myeongji Global Campus to the worldwide educational complex," said a BJFEZ official. "To that end, we will focus on facilitating FDI in BJFEZ and cultivating global talents."
