A variety of sailboats are headed to Korea for the 2013 Korea Sailing Festival, to be held in the southern coast of Korea for 14 days from April 22 to May 5. The festival comprises four races; the 2013 Southern Coast International Yacht Race (April 22-25), the National Yacht Race for the Disabled (April 26-28), the Busan Super Cup International Yacht Race (April 27-28), and the Korea-Japan Arirang Yacht Race (May 2-5).

1,500 racers in 150 teams from 12 countries will participate in this year’s festival, which will award winners KRW 120 million. The Korea Sailing Festival, which began last year, received so many applications that it had to end the application period earlier than planned. Busan plans to quickly expand sailing-related facilities in order not to limit the number of participants.

The festival is expected to promote Busan as the country’s best sailing city and establish a foundation to become one of the world’s most prominent yacht festivals. Busan officials said they will keep developing various maritime sports programs for residents.
