The Asia Film Market, which began Monday during the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), ended in success yesterday.

The organizing committee of the BIFF announced today that the Asia Film Market, held in the Busan Exhibition & Convention Center, ended in success.

This year’s Asia Film Market observed 1,272 registrations and 733 companies, which increased by 16 percent from last year’s 1,098 registrations and 690 companies.

Including the Busan International Film Commission & Industry Showcase (BIFCOM), 198 companies from 32 countries participated to hold 92 booths.

BIFF estimated that 4,000 movie industry insiders at the maximum visited the Market.

Participating companies held 50 meetings each on average, leading to total 10,000 meetings at the minimum regarding production, purchase, sales and investment.

Among consultation meetings, more than 150 contracts are expected to be made.

The number of market screenings increased to 87 this year from last year’s 71, and number of movies provided by online screening services reached 261.

Insiders also showed a deep interest in the Book to Film, a project to develop movie scenarios from books, comics and other original works, which was introduced last year.

An BIFF organizing committee official noted various comments from last year’s participants were reflected on preparations for this year, adding that this year’s event received many positive comments.
