The City of Busan will hold a completion ceremony on Wednesday at the 66,800㎡ site, which is in Saenggok-dong, Gangseo-gu, Busan.

Constructed and to be run by Posco Engineering & Construction and Busan E&E, the plant was completed in three years, with construction beginning in October of 2010. The facility consists of a combustible mechanical biological treatment facility with a 900-ton daily capacity and a boiler for RDF products with a 500-ton daily capacity.

Fuel facility consists of envelope crushing device, wood waste crushing device, shredding machine for combustible products and drying machine for combustible products.

Last February, the plant underwent trial testing for reliability and performance.

The business is a private investment by Posco Engineering & Construction as a BTO method in 2008. Investments included KRW 96.4 billion from the government, KRW 25.3 billion from the City of Busan and KRW 213.3 billion in private capital.

This facility will create 600MW of new and renewable energy a day, generating KRW 22 billion a year in power production income. The facility will also reduce the amount of waste at a nearby landfill site, extending its lifespan by 11 years, to 2041.

Officials including Minister of Environment Yoon Seongkyu, Busan Mayor Hur Nam Sik, the Busan-Jinhae Free Economic Zone Authority Commissioner and the Commissioner of the Nakdonggang River Drainage Basin Area Environment Center will attend the completion ceremony this week.
