(SEOUL = Newsis) East Sea Fisheries Management Service (President: Kim Tai-gi) of Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced on 25th that the development project of Cheonseong National Port in Busan would begin on 10th December.

A total of KRW 4.2 billion will be invested for five years to the project, which includes the construction of seawall (360m), lighters wharf (320m) and bulkhead (561m).

The seawall will have curved shape to enhance the scenic beauty of the port and it will have minimum impact on water pollution inside of the harbor.

The project also seeks to secure some 49,000㎡ of supporting site including Ho-an Supporting Site which has the combined function of disaster prevention and waterfront to support the fishery activities and provide convenience facilities for the local residents.

Chenseong Port, which was designated as a national port in 2008, completed fundamental and execution designs last year, and announced its development initiative in September after various authorities’ reviews including the environmental impact assessment were conducted.

“Cheonseong Port will work as a bridge between Busan and Geoje. About 500 fishing boats can safely use the port, so we expect some increase of tourists who visit the port, which will lead to a higher income for the region.” An official of East Sea Fisheries Management Service said.
