Busan to Establish Residential Town for Industrial Workers

(BUSAN = Yonhap News) In Busan’s Gijang-gun, where a total of 10 industrial complexes will be established, a residential town for workers of industrial complexes will be build, according to an announcement by Busan.

The city announced yesterday that it decided to establish a mini residential town in a 230,000m2 site in Gijang-gun. Details about the scale of the project, feasibility and project schemes will be announced on February 14.

The town comprises small rental houses for industrial workers and their families, cultural facilities, kindergartens, welfare facilities and shopping centers.

Around the town, a total of 10 industrial complexes including Jeonggwan industrial complex, Jangan industrial complex were constructed or are currently being developed.

The town is expected to accommodate more than 2,300 households. The city will invest a total of KRW 64 billion for the project, including land compensation.

Busan plans to finalize project plans in the first half of this year and select project developers in the second half.

It aims to complete the construction of the town by 2018.

“As there are many small and large industrial complexes nearby Gijang-gun, a need for establishing a residential town for industrial workers is very obvious,” said an official of the city.

“We expect that once the town is constructed, it will improve the living environment for workers as well as business operation in the complexes.”
