(BUSAN = Yonhap News) The construction of a technology-business center, tentatively named Global TBC, will be commenced this year to foster specialized industries and promote commercialization of technologies of Busan.

Innoplois Busan announced on February 12 that it will invest KRW one billion to commence the construction of Global TBC in research and development convergence district at Mieum Industrial Complex this year.

It will invest a total of KRW 39.2 billion by 2017 to construct a 16,923m2 center with one floor underground and eight floors above ground.

The center will be equipped with international conference room with simultaneous interpretation systems, training rooms and seminar rooms, as well as office space for domestic international research institutes and engineering companies and technological supporting center operated by Innopolis Busan.

On the 7th and 8th floors of the center, a total of 34 guesthouses for residing researchers and employees will be constructed.

Global TBC is expected to play a role as the city’s global business district to offer infrastructure to carry out R&D for specialized industries.

“We will draw up final design for the project through construction and design contest this year and secure the budget for financing the project in 2015,” said an official of Innopolis Busan.

Established by the government in last May, Innopolis Busan aims to become a world-leading shipbuilding and offshore plant innovation cluster as the R&D hub for Korea together with Busan Science Industrial Complex, Noksan Industrial Complex, International Industrial and Logistics Complex.
