Preparation for ITU conference going smoothly in S. Korea
South Korea currently plans to include "convergence of the ICT and other industries," and "the Internet of Things" into the meeting's agenda. It will mark the first time for the country to actively propose an agenda since its enrollment at the organization in 1952.
"Participants will also discuss the role of the ICT in finding solutions to global issues such as climate change. Members will also exchange opinions on making efforts to redefine and bolster the roles of the ITU," the organizing committee said on its website.
The organizing committee estimates around 3,000 government delegates, including ministers, will visit Busan for the event, along with some 300,000 other visitors attending other exhibitions held along with PP-14.
"We are still continuing efforts to meet facilities-and-services standards set up by the ITU," Min said. "There will be a 10-gigabit Wi-Fi service at the venue to give strong impressions to participants as the nation specializes in IT, and we will continue efforts to develop applications to allow them to have access to data related to the event on mobile devices."
The ministry said it is also making efforts to bolster safety systems at the venue under cooperation with Geneva-based ITU headquarter, the Busan government, local police and firefighters. Major hospitals in the city will also be mobilized to provide medical services.
