(BUSAN=Yonhap News) The City of Busan aims to become the international financial hub with the establishment of the Busan International Finance Center (BIFC).

Busan announced at the briefing session on August 18 that the City will execute projects to vitalize Busan as the international financial hub.

The City will foster financial experts to support the international financial hub and establish a graduate school of finance to be opened in March or September next year to meet the demand for training of financial institutions in Busan.

The graduate school of finance will foster financial experts and lay the foundation for the development of academic and industrial field by cooperating with a maritime financial service center, ships and financial institutions and research centers (Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology, Korea Maritime Institute, Korea Hydrographic Oceanographic Administration).

The Korea International Finance Institute, another financial education institution, is established in BIFC and is jointly operated by five organizations including the Korea Federation of Banks, the Korea Financial Investment Association and the Credit Finance Association.

Busan will also carry out activities to attract shipbuilding companies to make the City the financial hub for ships in Northeast Asia.
