According to Yonhap News,

(BUSAN=Yonhap News) Renault Samsung Motors Co., the local unit of the French carmaker Renault S.A., aims to sell 800 SM7 Nova luxury sedans per month in South Korea in 2014 to boost its presence here, its executive vice president said Wednesday.

In a media event held in Busan, where the carmaker has its production plant, Park Dong-hoon stressed that the face-lifted vehicle will appeal to those buyers wanting to differentiate themselves from "everyday, commonplace cars" seen on the roads.

"The SM7 Nova is targeting customers that are not afraid to make a statement and confident with standing out," he said.

He indicated that successful men and women in their 40s and 50s may be interested in the car, which has a "stronger" front-end and updated interior features found in the latest luxury vehicles.

Park said that with the success of the SM7, the carmaker aims to sell at least 80,000 vehicles in the country this year up from around 60,000 in 2013.

The statement comes as sales of the sedan has tapered off to just 1,848 units in the first six months of the year, despite the car being completely revamped in 2011. Last year sales of the SM7 stood at 3,587 units, down sharply from 17,022 reached in 2011.

The executive said the success of the car, which effectively completes the external changes made with the QM5 and QM3 crossovers and the SM3 Neo compact car, will lay the foundation for Renault Samsung to sell 150,000 cars in 2016.

Renault Samsung said that the car, which is already on sale nationwide, offers exceptional value with the industry's first "smart mirroring" system that uses Wi-Fi communication to link mobile devices of occupants with the car's infotainment system. This system is to be offered as standard on all SM7 Novas.

The SM7 has the exact same dimensions as the outgoing second generation model but has revamped sheet metal that gives it a refined, yet athletic and voluminous silhouette.

SM7 Nova comes with either a 2.5-liter or 3.5L engine that sends power to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox.

The 2.5L can reach 190 horsepower at 4,400 revolutions per minute and generate 24.8 kilogram-meters of torque. It has an energy smart management system that gives a combined fuel economy of 10.2 kilometers on a liter of gasoline. The V6 engine can generate 258 ponies and 33.7 kg-m twist, with gas mileage dipping to 9.4 kmpl.

Renault Samsung officials, meanwhile, said they are looking at other engine options like the introduction of a diesel powertrain.

"The Renault Nissan Alliance, which the carmaker is a part of, has plenty of diesel engines to choose from," an engineer said. He also said that taking steps to bring down the weight of the car is being examined in detail.
