The budget for 2015 is a 28 percent increase than that of last year (KRW 194.5 billion), which will help to carry out major national projects.

The office will first invest KRW 137.4 billion in the development of a new port and secure 17m deep waters to ensure safe navigation of large-scale container ships.

Also, it will promote the establishment of a port hinterland in the western area and begin construction of a port hinterland in the southern area in the second half of the year.

It will invest KRW 94.7 billion in the existing ports including North Port, Gamcheon Port and Dadaepo Port to reinforce the seawalls and carry out maintenance work.

Furthermore, the office will invest KRW 11.5 billion in the coastal maintenance project. It will continue to restore the Haeundae beach to what it was like in the 1970s and will also create a healing beach area for tourists and Busan residents.

"We will invest 60 percent of this year’s budget in the first half of the year to revitalize the economy of the construction industry in Busan and strive to create a marine cultural space for everyone who visits our city," said an official at the Busan Port Office.
