According to Yonhap News,

(BUSAN=Yonhap News) Busan, a city of meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE), will host a series of intergovernmental international events.

The plenary meeting of the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) and the Korea-Pacific Islands Senior Officials' Meeting will be held in the port city of Busan this month.

Founded in 1987, the MTCR is aimed at preventing proliferation of weapons of mass destruction through control of missile equipment and technology.

The global security regime is regarded as one of the major multinational bodies established for nuclear weapon control along with the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).

As South Korea assumed the role as chair of both the MTCR and the NSG this year, the plenary meeting of the MTCR will be held at the Busan Exhibition and Convention Center for five days between October 17 to 21 following the plenary meeting of the NSG held in Seoul last June.

This year's plenary meeting of the MTCR will be attended by around 300 governmental officials from 35 member countries.

The security meeting will be followed by the Korea-Pacific Islands Senior Officials' Meeting, which is scheduled to take place between October 24 to 27, 2016.

Around 60 government officials from 14 countries will discuss ways to collaborate in various sectors including fishery, energy, and development assistance. Agenda of the meeting will mainly be fisheries and maritime affairs, which is of high importance to Busan as well.
