Busan Launches Initiative to Support Startups and Investment in Fishing Industry

(BUSAN=Newsis News) The City of Busan revealed Feb. 14 its plans to commence a full-scale imprementation of its Initiative to Support Startups and Investment in Fishing Industry.

The City intends to nurture the fishing industry into a globally-competent growth engine for the future, by supporting potential startups and promising businesses that have outstanding fishing tecnologies, with industry-specific consultation and marketing services.

Feb. 2015, the City secured through Busan Techno Park's Marine Life Industry Promotion Center (selected by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries as an organization to receive close support specially designed for each stage of development) a total budget of KRW 5.9 billion to be used for three years.

In 2015, a total of 42 fishery-related compaies were selected and supported with KRW 2 billion, while the following year saw 44 companies receiving KRW 1.7 billion.

This year, a total of KRW 2.2 billion will be spent on 34 companies for close support and 20 company-led member businesses, based on the startup and investment environment that has been established during the past two years.

The initiative will be officially launched on Feb. 15 with the public campaign to recruit businesses hoping to receive the support.
