Busan, Australia Sign MoU for Cooperation on Renewable Energy

(BUSAN=Yonhap News) Busan is joining hands with Australia to strengthen its capacity in new and renewable energy, and marine science.

The city of Busan said April 5 that the Busan Techno Park signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Australia's Common Wealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) on April 29 at the Parliament of Victoria to pursue exchange an dcooperation in new and renewable energy and marine science sectors.

Mased on the MoU, Busan Techno Park's New and Renewable Energy Center will hold a regular video conference with CSIRO once every two weeks, and work together on developing technology, sharing pending issues and devising joint technological projects.

Meanwhile, as part of their collaborative effort, Australia's CSIRO plans to form a task force at its Energy Centre in Newcastle, to research solar power and heating systems, gas generators, energy storage systems, and lithium batteries.

Executives in charge of manufacturing at CSIRO are scheduled to visit the Busan Techno Park on April 21 to reach an agreement on joint research projects.

Busan Mayor Suh Byung-soo personally visited Australia for the signing, along with the city's Oceania delegation.

According to a city source, "the MoU is expected to increase the volume of exchange in new and renewable energy and investment from Oceanic companies.
