(BUSAN=Yonhap) The Busan city government announced July 3 that it has established a plan to support and promote the local games industry, to lead growth in the city's cultural content industry and create a sustainable source of added value, ultimately transforming itself into a leading global games city by 2021.
The plan specifies the following 5 strategies, as well as 18 subordinate projects.
First, the city will create a street of games in connection with Korea's largest games exhibition G-star, and build regular platforms including G-station and G-cafe.
Second, to nurture the creative and innovative indie games industry, the city will hold auditions to find new indie games and build a global hub for indie game developers.
Third, to promote the new growth industry of e-sports, the city will open an e-sports venue, where it hopes to attract various global events.
Fourth, the city will hold the first launching event for StarCraft: Remastered on July 30 at Gwangan-ri Beach, as well as trial e-sports matches for local public organizations.
Fifth, the city plans to build a game tech business center that will serve as a landmark and lead in the development of the local games industry.
