According to Yonhap News,

(SEOUL=Yonhap News) Virtual reality will be a prominent element for this year's Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), the organizer said Wednesday.

The organizing committee has recently signed a contract with Seoul-based Barunson Co., a leading content producer in Korea to co-host "VR Cinema in BIFF."

Many international film festivals have lately screened movies produced with VR technology in order to broaden the spectrum of the films that they presented.

BIFF has placed its bet on the rapid growth of VR movies down the road and mapped out programs to better deal with it in the long term.

So for this year's festival, the organizer will prepare a separate screening venue only for VR movies where some 30 films using the technology will be shown. Also, a VR conference will be held in the Busan Exhibition & Convention Center (BEXCO) on the sideline of Asian Film Market that will open for Oct. 14-17.

"The combination of VR technology and cinema is only natural and mutually beneficial," said Kang Soo-youn, executive director of the BIFF. "It is very important to think what kinds of opportunities VR technology will introduce to cinematography," she added.

This year's BIFF will take place in the port city during Oct. 12-21.
