(BUSAN=Yonhap News) An opportunity to see the latest technology in the maritime drone industry, the 2017 Drone Challenge Korea is set to kick off on August 11 at the Korea Maritime and Ocean University in Busan.

At this year's Drone Challenge Korea, 13 drone makers based in Korea will display and test fly drones designed specifically to perform tasks over the sea.

In addition to the displays and test flights, the event will also feature drone-flying competitions and shows that can be enjoyed by the general public.

The drone industry was designated by the national government in 2015 as a next-generation industry that is expected to serve as a future engine for growth.

Meanwhile, Korea's largest annual drone exhibition Drone Show Korea has been held in Busan since 2016.
