According to Yonhap News,
(SEOUL=Yonhap News) A biennial ICT fair hosted by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) will kick off in South Korea's southern port city of Busan next week to serve as a global platform for accelerating ICT innovations, organizers said Wednesday.
ITU Telecom World 2017 will open on Monday for a four-day run at the Busan Exhibition and Conference Center (BEXCO), with its aim of being a unique international platform that brings together influential figures from the government and industry, to further explore partnerships.
The ITU is the information and communications arm of the United Nations with a membership of 193 countries responsible for ICT-related issues. Allocating radio frequencies and satellite orbits, and improving the quality of communication services are some of its key tasks.
This year's event, the third of its kind, will involve high-level policy discussions and bilateral meetings on the core issues affecting the ICT industry, organizers said.
A total of some 60 ministers and vice-ministers from 14 Central and South American countries, including Mexico, Argentina and Guatemala, will participate in the forum to discuss key issues shaping the industry under the theme of "Smart digital transformation, global opportunities."
At the heart of ITU Telecom World 2017, a total of 430 companies from 53 countries will set up booths at the exhibition hall, hoping to grab the attention of international buyers and further look for potential partners.
Organizers said they have various programs and exhibition activities such as investment and acceleration workshops, presentations, networking opportunities and pitching sessions.
More than 30 promising startups will pitch their business ideas at a startup acceleration event on the sidelines of the gathering.
