Drone Show Korea 2018 to Kick Off in Busan on Jan. 25

(BUSAN=Yonhap News) This year's Drone Show Korea, Asia's largest drone festival, is set to take place from January 25 to 27 at the Busan Exhibition & Convention Center (BEXCO)in Haeundae-gu, Busan.

Now in its third year, the event is co-sponsored by the Busan Metropolitan City and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and hosted by BEXCO and the Korea UVS Association.

A total of 100 companies will participate in this year's show at 344 booths in a exhibition hall spanning 13,000 square meters.

Forty drone industry global leaders from six countries are scheduled to speak on various topics, including industry forecasts, strategies and future technology.

A business program was newly established this year for presenting possibilities of drone usage in public sectors, and for fostering a practical drone industry ecosystem. The space information sector, recently gaining attention as a new field for drone application, will also be introduced at the event.

In particular, this year's event will feature a promotion booth run by the ROK Army to apply outstanding civilian technologies and ideas to reinforce its comprehensive dronebot combat system.

Along with the exhibitions, a conference will be held on the possibilities of expanding the field of drone usage to disaster prevention, weather, agriculture, marine products, infrastructure and national property management sectors, and the directions in which the industry will develop in the future.

Separate sessions are also set to take place on future technologies and marine drones, showcasing space information, artificial intelligence, control system and other technologies in preparation for the new age of drone utilization, and looking into the expansion potential of drones at sea.

At the conference, Tripard Baptiste, director of strategy of Intel's drone team, and Shin Jaiwon, associate administrator for aeronautics at NASA will be speaking on the latest trends in drone technology.

The city of Busan will operate a center at the event where visitors can make suggestions on how to improve drone industry regulations, and help the city resolve existing issues of inconvenience.
