According to Yonhap News,

(BUSAN=Yonhap News) An increasing number of global companies are opting to hold meetings in Busan, the city of MICE (meetings, incentices, conferences, and exhibitions).

Busan Metropoliran City and the Busan Tourism Organization (BTO) announced February 3 that the city has attracted four meetings by multinational companies, totaling 13,000 participants, for the first half of this year.

On February 3, global direct sales company ACN kicks off its Asia Convention for a two-day run at the Busan Exhibition & Convention Center (BEXCO).

Some 7,000 participants (1,200 from Japan, Taiwan and the U.S.) are set to attend the convention, which will feature employee education and training sessions, performance report events, an award ceremony for outstanding employees, workshops, and product exhibitions.

Founded in 1993 in Condord, North Carolina, ACN is a global multi-level marketing company that now operates in 25 countries.

In celebration of the 25th anniversary since its foundation, the company chose Busan as the location for its first Asia convention.

Starting with a corporate meeting with some 5,000 attendees in January, three more events by global companies are set to be held in Busan in the first half of this year, including the ACN Asia Convention (February), as well as meetings by Dio (May, 700 participants) and 3GPP (May, 700 participants).

A member of BTO's convention bureau team said, "an increasing number of large-scale global companies are opting to to hold conventions in Busan rather than in the greater capital area, as Busan is an ideal city for both business and recreation, and the city's efforts to develop various experience-based activities seem to have been effective."

The person added, "the city is also working on attracting more large-scale corporate meetings for the second half of this year, and such meetings are expected to grow in number and scale as Korea's relationship with China recovers."
