According to Yonhap News,
(BUSAN=Yonhap News) BUSAN, April 10 (Yonhap) -- A national research center on earthquakes will be built in Busan in collaboration between the city and universities, officials said Tuesday.
The port city, some 450 kilometers southeast from Seoul, has the highest density of nuclear reactors in the country, also the third highest globally. Three fault lines cross the city to form the Yangsan fault zone.
Building the country's first national research center on earthquakes in the area was a campaign pledge by President Moon Jae-in.
A preparatory task force launched in November concluded that the center would need about 250 staff members to handle monitoring, research planning and execution, infrastructure support and public relations. The Institute for Research & Industry Cooperation of Pusan National University was evaluated as the best among four candidate sites to host the center.
