According to Yonhap News,

(BUSAN=Yonhap News) The number of foreign tourists in Busan declined due to the controversy surrounding the THAAD missiles, but after a year, there are signs of recovery.

According to the city of Busan's records on foreign tourists, 227,006 tourists visited Busan in April, up 9.5% from last April's 207,372.

Ever since last April, the number of foreign tourists declined every month, and this marks the first time the numbers showed growth.

The turnaround follows the increase of tourists to Korea for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics and the easing tensions on the Korean Peninsula following the Inter-Korean Summit.

Another factor is the normalization and expansion of Chinese group tours to Korea and the thawing relationship between the two countries.

Chinese tourists to Busan reached 24,079 people, up 16.3% YoY.

The number of Japanese tourists reached 44,935 people during Japan's longest holiday, golden week (1 week from the end of April to the beginning of May), up 24.3% from the 36,159 people that visited last year.

Tourists from Taiwan increased 42.4%, Singapore 28.4%, Malaysia 15.4% and Indonesia 17.5%.
