(BUSAN=Yonhap News) On July 5, 32 cable-suspended (suspension) bridge agencies will gather in Busan's BEXCO 2nd Exhibition Hall for the 2018 International Conference of Cable-supported bridges.
The conference will be held in cooperation with domestic and overseas cable bridge management organizations for technology exchange and cooperation in line with the increasing demand for suspension bridges and the globalization of bridge-maintenance technology.
This year marks the event's 15th year since it was first held in 2004 with representatives from 3 suspension bridges in Korea; the Gwangandaegyo Bridge, Yeongjong Bridge and Seohae Grand Bridge.
This year's conference will be sponsored by the city of Busan and overseen by Busan Infrastructure Corporation.
This year's event also coincides with the 15th anniversary of Gwangandaegyo Bridge and will have representatives from 24 domestic bridges and 8 overseas bridges, including Tsing Ma Bridge, located in 6 different countries in attendance.
Participants will present and share ideas and the latest technologies with local experts on the topic of the safety and maintenance of suspension bridges.
Local companies will host a technology exhibition at the conference, and there will also be an award ceremony for the most outstanding research paper by university students during the event.
