(BUSAN=Yonhap News) The World Ocean Forum, a platform to share the current trend and vision of the field of ocean and discuss issues, will start on October 17.
Marking its 12th event, the World Ocean Forum will be held at Lotte Hotel Busan until October 19 under the theme of "Creating and Sustaining Value from the Ocean."
This year's Forum will focus on pursuing peace among the Northeast Asian countries through marine cooperation and discussing the value of sustainable development and coexistence.
Kevin Ashton, the pioneer of Internet of Things (IoT) is invited as a keynote speaker to deliver lectures on the values that can be created when IoT is connected to shipping industry and shipbuilding industry.
The main sessions include "Peace and the Maritime Cooperation in Northeast Asia," Marine Environment New Business Discovering a new value of the Ocean," "Create Value of new economy-The Future of the Ocean, the Market Opportunity," and "Marine City Network-Building Marine & Coastal Cities Network."
The Fair also will hold special sessions, including Ocean Journalism, Ocean Start-up Competition, Business Forum for Maritime Fisheries ODA and Marine Humanities, along with the 2018 Korea Green Shipping Forum.
"I believe that the event will be a meaningful forum to discuss on marine cooperation in the Korean Peninsula and establishment of Northeast Asia Regional Cooperation Body with the eminent speakers invited and with the experts from five countries gathered after the leaders of two Koreas had a dialogue," said an official from the host.
