(SEOUL=Yonhap News) Startup Festival 2018, the biggest startup event in Korea has started on November 8 in Busan.
Co-hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and Busan Metropolitan City, the Festival will be held until November 10 with the purpose of creating a forum of cooperation between startups and spread the boom of startups.
Korean and foreign startups, global leaders, investors and people interested in startups can enjoy this festival, which is held in outside of the capital area for the first time since 2001.
Busan is the number two startup city where 56 startup support centers and 13 accelerators are located near Busan Centum Tech-Startup Accelerating Program (CENTAP), opened in 2016.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups expects that the event will revitalize the ecosystem of startups in Busan.
Under the slogan of "Light Up Your Idea," the festival will hold various programs, including lectures, forum, networking, exhibition, training, consulting sessions, IR and cultural performances.
During the festival period, Gunam-ro, Haeundae area will become a street showroom.
About 100 startups with creative ideas and excellent technologies will exhibit their products and manage experience programs in the field of IT, game, healthcare, beauty and education.
Not only startups, investors and accelerators but also well-known startup-related people will participate to build networks.
Korean and global speakers will participate and communicate with each other.
"Exchange and cooperation is the most important factors for startups. To realize open innovation in a true meaning, we need to get out of the box and freely communicate with each other in an open space," said Hong Jong-hak, Minister of SMEs and Startups. "I hope this festival will contribute to a more mature startup ecosystem of Korea."
