According to Yonhap News,

(BUSAN=Yonhap News) Busan city is to hold a conference on the latest technology and industry trend about SiC at Grand Hotel, Haeundae on March 21-22.

Sic has been in the limelight as a next-generation component in the semiconductor industry for its high voltage and high heat resistance quality, unlike Si, and its strength next only to Diamond.

To secure expertise in this area, SiC research association of the Korean Institute of Electrical and Electronic Material Engineers was launched as an official academic association, jointly holding this conference with Busan city.

Busan city also has been pushing for the creation of power semiconductor cluster project together with MOTIE.

A power semiconductor device is, unlike a memory semiconductor, a semiconductor that plays a controlling role, such as power switching, transformation, and distribution.

It can be applied widely to all electric and electronic devices including new industries such as electric vehicles, wind power, and photovoltaics.

The city will invest KRW 83.1 billion for commercialization of power semiconductors by 2023, and KRW 20 billion for establishment of reliability assessment center by 2022.

The construction of power semiconductor commercialization center will be finished by June this year.

This commercialization center will be established in the scale of 5,845㎡ floor area on the area of 3,300㎡ in Dongnam Radiological & Medical Science complex.
