According to Yonhap News,
(BUSAN=Yonhap News)
Busan city is considering to designate the areas involving BEXCO and Centum City as the integrated convention district.
The city announced on May 4 that it plans to outsource research on basic plan for the designation of the integrated convention district.
If designated, financial aid from the government for international meeting facilities such as hotels and performance halls can be obtained through the tourism promotion and development fund.
The basic conditions for the designation of the integrated convention district are the presence of specialized facilities for international meetings and expert meetings within 4 million square meters, and had more than 5,000 foreign participants in the previous year.
The city is pushing for the designation to create added values and improve city's brand by integrating related facilities.
Also, the designation will give the upper hand in attracting international meetings and fostering related industries.
The city intends to establish and review a basic plan within this year, and proceed with the designation procedure from March next year.
