Busan Medical Tourism sets sights on Sakha Republic of Russia

(BUSAN=Yonhap News) Busan's medical industry is to target Sakha Republic of Russia. Busan city and Busan Economic Promotion Agency (BEPA) held a "Busan Medical Tourism Briefing Session" at Yakutsk, Sakha Republic to promote Busan's medical science and attract foreign patients

Russia is a core market of Busan's medical tourism, as shown from statistics by the Korea Health Industry Development Institute (KHIDI), 4,927 patients, or 32 percent of total 15,282 foreign patients visited Busan last year, came from Russia.

Far Eastern area including Vladivostok and Kamchatka are forming the market for Busan's medical tourism.

Yakutsk of Sakha Republic is home to 350, 000 population, has 50 percent of world's diamond reserves, is rich in crude oil and natural gas. Thus, high proportion of its population is high-income earners.

In particular, it has high demands for group health check-up, attracting attention as Busan's new medical tourism market.

Four medical institutions including Inje University Haeundae Paik Hospital, Dong-A University Hospital, Dongnam Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences, and Park Weon Wook Hospital took part in the event.

Following the event, they also offered free medical consultations for 200 general patients at North-Eastern Federal University Hospital in Russia.

They also held a seminar on advanced medical technology, covering Busan's medical technology including spine and joint disease and treatment, liver cancer treatment, and reconstructive surgery.
