According to Yonhap News,

(BUSAN=Yonhap News) On August 12, Busan Port Authority announced that Busan Port was ranked 3rd among the world's container ports in Liner Shipping Connectivity Index (LSCI), published by the United Nations Conference on Traded and Development (UNCTAD).

The current version of the LSCI is generated from the six components, including the number of regular liner shipping services from and to the country, and the total deployed capacity.

UNCTAD has evaluated 900 global container ports every year since 2006, publishing the results.

The index for HongKong in 2006, which had the largest capacity at that time, is 100 and all other indices are in relation to this value.

The index of Busan Port is 114.45, following Shanghai (134.32) and Singapore (124.63) this year.

Last year, it was ranked 4th (111.96), following Shanghai, Singapore, and Ningbo Ports.

This year, it recaptured the 3rd place, narrowly outpacing Ningbo Port (114.35).

The PLSCI of Busan Port was merely 77.38 in 2006, but continued to grow after surpassing the 100 mark in 2014 (101.46).

Busan Port Authority said that the growth momentum of transshipment volume led to an increase in PLSCI.
