Busan North Port Redevelopment project to pick up speed
A construction process to accommodate basic infrastructures under the name of “Busan North Port Redevelopment” appears to pick up speed.
Busan Port Authority (BPA) announced on Mar. 21 that the first phase of the construction project, establishing four new facilities stretching between Dock No.4 and nearby passenger terminal, is expected to finish until the end of May. The place will have offshore marina, an ocean park and a vertically curved suspension bridge (catenary), which extends to 100m x 44m. BPA cut the first turf for the project in May, which comes to an end in Jan. 2021.
The ground breaking process to build up port marina, an open space for entertainment, starts in May. The place which costs KRW 66.5 billion will have a berthage, a club house, a showroom selling souvenirs and hotels.
As part of the masterplan, a site grading work to lay out an ocean park near Busan International Passenger and Cruise Terminals, which sprawls across 58,000㎡ (out of 250,000㎡), begins this April in an attempt to open to the public. BPA makes the very first start of the construction in Apr. 2022. A site reclamation work to keep dock No.1 preserved and a site grading near customs office and old passenger terminal also begins from May. 200- Apr. 2022.
The very first phase of the redevelopment project, which laid the foundation in 2008, has been in the spotlight as the decades long mega-scale construction plan is forecast to become a turning point, transforming old, rusty town into the hot spot as a global maritime hub which stretches towards 1,540,000㎡ site with local and national budget totaling KRW 2.4 trillion.
