Busan-si announced on March 25 that the city was ranked the 30th in the latest Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI).

GFIC provides ranks based on evaluations of 126 global financial cities around the world in March and September every year, published by Z/Yen, a global consulting firm headquartered in London, U.K.

Busan was ranked the 51st in 1H 2020, moved up to the 40th place in 2H 2020. It was placed in the 36th 1H 2021, 33rd in 2H 2021, making continued growth.

Busan climbed 21 places in the global financial city rank in just two years, appearing in the top 10 list in the Asia-Pacific region for the first time.

Globally, New York in the US was ranked the 1st, followed by London in UK, Hong Kong, Shanghai in China, and Los Angeles in the US, while Seoul was ranked 12th.

Busan-si observed that the smooth progress of Gadeokdo Airport, promoted as a national project, and expectations for the 2030 Busan World Expo and creation of Southeast Mega-city were reflected in upward moves of ranking.
